Abstract
Procedimiento de purificación de distintos tipos de alúmina (A1{sub,2}O{sub,3}) por reducción de impurezas (Na{sub,2}O, Fe{sub,2}O{sub,3} y K{sub,2}O) a especies volátiles mediante tratamiento térmico a temperaturas habitualmente comprendidas entre 1300 °C y 1500 °C, durante tiempos generalmente entre 1 y 6 horas, y en atmósferas controladas de baja presión parcial de O{sub,2}. En estas condiciones, las impurezas son eliminadas por reducción a especies volátiles. La alúmina así obtenida presenta amplias aplicaciones en el campo de los refractarios, y en la fabricación de materiales cerámicos avanzados y composites.
