Abstract

The invention concerns a method and device for detecting traffic data from vehicles. The vehicles are each provided with at least one decentralized unit which has at least one first, position-determining function and at least one second, mobile communication function. At least one central unit with control functions and processing functions for the traffic data detected is associated with a plurality of decentralized units. By means of control signals, the central unit activates processes stored in the decentralized unit, and the decentralized unit database is a subset of the central unit database.
