PREFERIBLEMENTE, EL DP SE SITUA EN EL RANGO DE 450-600. LA ESPONJA SE PUEDE REFORZAR MEDIANTE FIBRAS DISCONTINUAS, PREFERIBLEMENTE DE CELULOSA, Y SE PUEDE TRATAR CON UN AGENTE HUMECTANTE O CON UN ABLANDADOR. DICHA ESPONJA PUEDE CONTENER ASIMISMO UNO O MAS TENSIOACTIVOS. LA RETENCION DE AGUA SE PUEDE INCREMENTAR MEDIANTE ETERIFICACION PARCIAL. ASIMISMO, SE DESCRIBE UN PROCEDIMIENTO DE FABRICACION DE UNA ESPONJA DE CELULOSA, A PARTIR DE UNA SOLUCION DE CELULOSA EN UN DISOLVENTE DE OXIDO DE AMINA. UN ADITIVO (COMO UNA SAL INORGANICA SOLUBLE O UN MATERIAL ORGANICO HIDROSOLUBLE) SE DISPERSA EN EL SENO DE LA SOLUCION, Y PROPORCIONA SITIOS PARA LA FORMACION DE CELULAS EN LA SOLUCION DE CELULOSA, A MEDIDA QUE ESTA SE REGENERA. SE PUEDE EMPLEAR UN AGENTE ESPUMANTE O SOPLANTE PARA FACILITAR LA FORMACION DE LAS CELULAS.
