LA INVENCION SE REFIERE A UN PROCEDIMIENTO PARA TRATAR AGUAS RESIDUALES QUE CONTENGAN AMONIACO EN EL CUAL EL ION DE BICARBONATO ES EL CONTRAION DEL ION DE AMONIO PRESENTE EN LAS AGUAS RESIDUALES. DE ACUERDO CON LA INVENCION, LA MITAD DEL AMONIO SE CONVIERTE EN NITRITO, DANDO COMO RESULTADO UNA SOLUCION QUE CONTIENE AMONIACO Y NITRITO, Y EN EL SEGUNDO PASO EL NITRITO SE UTILIZA COMO OXIDANTE PARA EL AMONIACO. EN EL PROCEDIMIENTO DE ACUERDO CON LA INVENCION, LA CONVERSION DE LA MITAD DEL AMONIACO EN NITRITO SE PRODUCE AUTOMATICAMENTE, SUMINISTRANDO UN PROCEDIMIENTO QUE REQUIERE MENOS CONTROLES.
