Abstract

Shapes cast from non-ferrous metals, such as the light metals aluminium or magnesium, can present paintability or weldability problems if the casting tools, e.g., the mould, consist of iron. According to the invention, the casting tools, e.g., the mould, are therefore either produced from a heavy-metal alloy such as a wolfram alloy or coated with said alloy on the contact surface up to the shape. In particular, the heavy metal alloy is in the form of a sintered shape which is subsequently treated on the contact surface, especially mechanically treated, particularly by cutting.
