Abstract

Metabolito de todo-trans-retinol. La presente invención se refiere a un metabolito del todo-trans-retinol, y más particularmente a tal metabolito que posee un anillo de tiofeno. El retinol y sus metabolitos participan en muchos procesos fisiológicos, tales como crecimiento y desarrollo, reproducción, diferenciación y proliferación celular, y visión. Excepto en el sistema visual donde las formas funcionales de la vitamina A han sido bien caracterizadas (Wald, Science 162, 230-239, 1968), se piensa que otras funciones biológicas de la vitamina A están mediadas por la acción de ácidos retinoicos (RA) que interaccionan con el receptor de ácido retinoico (RAR) y homodímeros de (RXR) o heterodímeros de (RXR) del receptor del ácido retinoico X.
