LA LOCALIZACION PRECISA DE UN TAPON DE MATERIAL COMPRIMIBLE EN UN RECIPIENTE PROPORCIONA FLEXIBILIDAD PARA LA PRODUCCION DE SISTEMAS INDICADORES QUE VARIAN EN SU RESPUESTA FRENTE A CONDICIONES DE ESTERILIZACION. DICHA APERTURA SE RELLENA CON UN INSERTO CILINDRICO DE ESPUMA COMPRIMIDO Y EL INDICADOR DE ENSAYO SE INTRODUCE EN LA CAMARA DE ESTERILIZACION. EL INSERTO DE ESPUMA REGULA LA CANTIDAD DE ESTERILIZANTE, COMO VAPOR, GAS, SUSTANCIAS QUIMICAS O PLASMA, QUE SE INTRODUCE EN EL INDICADOR DE ENSAYO. TRAS UNA ESTERILIZACION ADECUADA, EL ESTERILIZANTE DESTRUYE LAS ENZIMAS INTERACTIVAS Y NO SE FORMA PRODUCTO COLOREADO. LA INACTIVACION DEL SISTEMA ENZIMATICO SE PRODUCE PARALELAMENTE A LA INACTIVACION DE ESPORAS BACTERIANAS SOMETIDAS AL PROCEDIMIENTO DE ESTERILIZACION.
