Abstract
Process for preparing mononitrofuran derivatives, the operations comprising subjecting a furan compound, having a substitutable hydrogen atom, in at least one of the alpha positions on the furan ring, dissolved in an acetic anhydride medium, to the action of a nitration agent, in the presence of a phosphorus compound selected from the group consisting of phosphorus chlorides, phosphorus bromides, phosphorus oxides, phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorus oxybromide, at temperatures below about 10º c, and recovering the compound of mononitrofuran.
