Abstract

# Some examples reveal a procedure to provide a HARQ response on an LTE network for a PUCCH 1b format. The procedure includes receiving one or more downlink assignments from an aggregation window on a wireless downlink control channel, establishing a reception status for each subframe of a downlink data channel in the window of aggregation based on whether the subframe in the downlink data channel was associated with one in particular of the downlink assignments received and based on whether the subframe was received successfully, establishing a state of receiving subframes of the channel of downlink data in the aggregation window that did not have a corresponding downlink assignment for a predetermined value and the transmission of a response, the response based on the reception states set by the response module.

ANTECEDENTES 5

Celda primaria
Celda secundaria Recurso Constelación Bits de Entrada de Código RM
HARQ-ACK(0), HARQ-ACK(1), HARQ-ACK(2), HARQ-ACK(3)
HARQ-ACK(0), HARQ-ACK(1), HARQ-ACK(2), HARQ-ACK(3) RECURSO PUCCH b(0), b(1) o(0), o(1), o(2), o(3)
ACK, ACK, NACK/DTX, cualquiera

Celda primaria
Celda secundaria Recurso Constelación Bits de Entrada de Código RM
HARQ-ACK(0), HARQ-ACK(1), HARQ-ACK(2), HARQ-ACK(3)
HARQ-ACK(0), HARQ-ACK(1), HARQ-ACK(2), HARQ-ACK(3)
RECURSO PUCCH b(0), b(1) o(0), o(1), o(2), o(3)
ACK, ACK, NACK/DTX, cualquiera

DESCRIPTION

HARQ-ACK handling for unplanned downlink subframes

BACKGROUND 5

Long Term Evolution (LTE) and other wireless networks depend on the transmission of messages through an unreliable medium between a mobile device (for example, a User Equipment (UE)) and the Radio Access Network (RAN) . In LTE the RAN consists of one or more eNodeB nodes. This unreliable communication medium can create 10 problems for proper data communication between the RAN and the UE since the data may be lost or corrupted due to poor signal quality, interference or other problems with the wireless medium.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION 15

In order to address the unreliable wireless communication medium, LTE and other cellular networks employ a mechanism called Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) to provide error correction and packet acknowledgments to ensure a secure supply of data between the RAN and the EU. HARQ provides 20 error correction on the receiver side using error correction coding on reception (FEC) as well as automatic feedback mechanisms (Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ)) to indicate to the sender whether the packets were received successfully or not. . Upon receipt of a data packet, the receiver uses an error detection code (for example, a Cyclic Redundancy Control (CRC)) to determine if the packet was received correctly. If the packet was received successfully, the receiver recognizes the sender using a feedback mechanism (for example, ACK). If the package was not received successfully, the receiver may attempt to repair the package using the FEC information. If the receiver manages to use the FEC information to repair the package, it can recognize (ACK) the sender, and otherwise the receiver can respond to the sender with an Acknowledgment of 30 Negative Receipt (NACK). In other examples, the receiver (the UE) may respond that it was in mode called Discontinuous Transmission Mode (DTX). The DTX response may represent a case in which the UE is not able to properly detect the information in a control channel (for example, the Primary Control Channel of the Downlink -
PDCCH) and thus was unable to determine if a package was sent to the UE.

In a cellular network, these HARQ responses are normally transmitted on the control channels. Replies for downlink traffic sent from the RAN to the UE are normally sent on uplink control channels (for example, the 5 Uplink Physical Control Channel (PUCCH)). Responses for uplink traffic from the UE to the RAN are normally sent on downlink HARQ-ACK channels (for example, the physical hybrid HARQ indicator channel: PHICH). Packets that are not recognized (with a NACK message or simply not recognized at all) can be retransmitted by the sender. 10

In some systems, uplink communications (from the UE to the RAN) are separated from downlink communications in the frequency domain. That is, the uplink and downlink wireless communications take place in different frequency bands. These systems receive the name of Duplex Systems by Frequency Division (FDD). In other examples, wireless uplink and downlink wireless communications may share the same frequency bands, but may be divided into the time domain. That is, frequency bands are reserved for wireless uplink transmissions in some time examples (called, for example, 20 time slots), and wireless downlink communications in other time examples (e.g., intervals of time). This scheme is called Time Division Duplex (TDD). In other examples, half-duplex FDD (H-FDD) systems characterize uplink and downlink wireless communications in different frequency bands but also divided into the 25-time domain.

Due to the nature of the cellular network, communications between the UE and the RAN are asymmetric in favor of the wireless downlink. That is, more data is normally sent from the RAN to the UE than from the UE to the RAN. In order to compensate for this, cell planners often allocate more frequency or time resources (depending on whether the network is FDD or TDD) to wireless downlink communications than those assigned to uplink wireless communications.

This resource asymmetry creates problems for the UE when trying to manage the necessary HARQ acknowledgments since there are often insufficient uplink resources in the uplink control channels to transmit these responses. This problem is further compounded by the addition of multiple carriers and other uplink signaling, such as Channel Status Information. 5

In LTE, wireless transmissions are normally broken down into discrete units called frames, which can then be broken down into subframes and subframes into one or more code words. Each code word may have a correspondence relationship with a particular transport block and in the present specification they are used interchangeably unless otherwise indicated. With FDD systems, the HARQ response can be transmitted to a fixed number of subframes after the transmission is received (normally, 4 subframes later). However, with TDD systems, a fixed delay is not possible since there is often a variable number of uplink and downlink time intervals in a radio frame 15 due to the asymmetric wireless imbalance.

To solve these problems, for TDD systems, the 3rd Generation Association Project (3GPP) that promulgates the standards for 4G wireless networks (LTE) has developed several mechanisms. The first is aggregation in the 20 ACK / NACK / DTX time domain. For HARQ-ACK aggregation, the results of ACK, NACK or DTX for each particular code word in each downlink subframe for a particular number of subframes (called aggregation window) received in the downlink channel (for example, a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) are logically added to produce one or more multiple results corresponding to each code word in all subframes of an aggregation window. The number of composite ACK / NACK / DTX results produced below is equal to the number of code words in a subframe. For example, if the size of the aggregation window is four downlink subframes, and each subframe has two code words, the acknowledgments of the first code word of the 30 subframes 0-3 are logically added to each other, and the second code words of subframes 0-3 are also added together to produce two acknowledgment bits. The advantage of this technique is that it is very compact, by using few bits so that uplink coverage can be ensured. The downside is that yes
any one of the code words of any one of the subframes was not received correctly, then the particular code word would be retransmitted for all subframes. Another technique is to use HARQ-ACK multiplexing that can logically add code words in the code words (i.e. the so-called spatial domain aggregation) for each downlink subframe 5 individually to produce a bit of acknowledgment by each downlink subframe. The result is an ACK / NACK / DTX result for each associated downlink subframe in an aggregation window. For four downlink subframes, with two code words per subframe, an aggregation in the spatial domain is applied in two code words (if any) by the logical Y operation in the subframe and the multiple aggregate ACK / NACKs in the Subframes can result in a composite state within an aggregation window. For a HARQ-ACK response sent on the Physical Uplink Control (PUCCH) Channels, the composite state can be represented as a combination of a PUCCH resource and constellation points. This produces four acknowledgment results, one for every 15 subframe. It should be noted that, despite the fact that the name of this particular HARQ-ACK technique is "multiplexing," the term "aggregation window" is used throughout the specification.

An aggregation window is a unit of time (for example, a number of 20 subframes) that specifies when a HARQ-ACK feedback corresponding to a downlink traffic in that particular uplink subframe is transmitted in the uplink. A UE transmits HARQ-ACK feedback using PUCCH in a subframe n, in which the HARQ-ACK feedback is for n-ki, in which (defined in Table 1) and. The aggregation window is generally defined as the downlink subframes of n-ki, for an uplink HARQ-ACK feedback in the subframe n. Kki10Mi

TDD Uplink / Downlink Settings (D = Downlink,
S = special subframe with the three DwPTS, GP and UpPTS fields used to provide the UE time to move from downlink to uplink, U = uplink).

Advanced LTE supports carrier aggregation in which multiple 5 carriers can be used in the downlink. This means that multiple bits of ACK / NACK information must be forwarded to multiple carriers on the uplink. For this, LTE defines a technique known as channel selection with aggregation in the time domain. This technique uses a technique similar to HARQ-ACK multiplexing with the proviso that the aggregation in the time domain of this technique is slightly different from the existing one. Aggregation in the time domain for carrier aggregation can be used to transmit the number of consecutive ACKs for each component carrier while for single carrier it is used to transmit the logically aggregated HARQ-ACK information. The resulting ACK / NACK information can be encoded by the joint selection of a channel and a QPSK constellation symbol. Essentially, the results of multiplexed acknowledgments can then be indicated in a search table to select a two-bit field (the QPSK constellation) and a PUCCH resource (the selected channel) for PUCCH transmission. An RM code input bit is also provided in the case where the HARQ-ACK is dragged into PUSCH. Correspondence tables are shown in FIG. 1 and 2 (FIG. 20 2 continues in FIG. 2A) for different sizes of the aggregation window. The column named HARQ-ACK (0) - (2) for FIG. 1 and HARQ-ACK (0) - (3) for FIG. 2 and FIG. 2A represents the decision of ACK, NACK or DTX for that particular subframe for primary and secondary cells (CellP and CellS respectively). For example, in the case of a four subframe aggregation window, if subframe (0) was successfully received 25 (ACK), subframe (1) was unsuccessfully received (NACK), subframe (2) was received successfully (ACK) and subframe (3) was successfully received (ACK) in the primary cell and an ACK, ACK, ACK, NACK response was selected, in the secondary cell, the UE would select a constellation of (0, 1) with a feedback resource corresponding to an Uplink Physical Control Channel (PUCCH) 3 and using code input bits of 30 0,0,1,1. In sum, the HARQ-ACK column (j) is the ACK / NACK / or DTX response for each particular downlink subframe for each of the primary and secondary cells (for multiple carriers) and PUCCH resources, constellations and bits corresponding RM code input for use depending on the HARQ-ACK (j)
selected for each of the primary and secondary cells. This technique uses PUCCH 1b format when HARQ-ACK is transmitted using PUCCH.

HARQ-ACK aggregation or HARQ-ACK multiplexing may not work properly if the UE does not correctly receive the planning information for any planned frame. For example, if the eNodeB plans the terminal for two subframes with an aggregation window size of 2, but the UE only received the last frame, but did not know that the first frame was planned, the UE would respond with an ACK. The eNodeB would interpret this ACK as an acknowledgment of receipt of the two subframes. In order to determine when a downlink ensures that a UE has been omitted, the LTE specification provides a Downlink Assignment Index (DAI) sent to the UE from the RAN along with the downlink planning information on the PDCCH . The DAI transmitted in the downlink guarantee reduces the cumulative number of PDCCH (s) with assigned PDSCH transmission or transmissions and PDCCH indicating Semi-Persistent Planning (SPS) sent for the present subframe within the same aggregation window of each Served cell configured. The UE then uses the DAI to generate the HARQ-ACK (j) in the aggregation window.

Returning now to FIG. 3, a sample response calculation is shown. In example 20 of FIG. 3, an aggregation window of four subframes (M = 4) is displayed in two configured cells. The HARQ-ACK response (j) for the primary cell (CellP) is ACK, ACK, DTX, ACK and in the secondary cell (CellS) is ACK, NACK, NACK, ACK, respectively. The DAIs received in the PDCCH for CellP are 1 for subframe 0, 2 for subframe 1, and 4 for subframe 3. Note that the UE could not decode the 25 PDCCH in subframe 2 (m = 2) and so did not update its DAI value. Even when the UE lost the updated DAI value, it retrieves it in subframe m = 3 and thus knows that the DAI is 4 at the end of the aggregation window. Since the DAI value is 4, the UE knows that it needs four HARQ-ACK responses (j). For CellS, the DAIs received in the PDCCH are 1, 2, 3 and 4 for subframes 0, 1, 2 and 3 respectively. 30

Note that there is a problem when all subframes of a particular aggregation window are not planned by the RAN. Since some non-5 frames are planned, the DAI will not increase and will be smaller than the size of the aggregation window at the end of the aggregation window. The feedback tables of FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 assume that all frames are planned. FIG. 4 shows an example of this issue. In this example, the first two downlink subframes in CellP are not planned. Thus for subframe 2, DAI is 1 and for subframe 3, DAI is 10 2 (compared to FIG. 3, where DAI was 3 and 4 for subframes 2 and 3 respectively). Since HARQ-ACK (j) is determined together with the DAI value, HARQ-ACK (0) corresponds to subframe 2 and HARQ-ACK (1) corresponds to subframe 3. However, HARQ-ACK (2) and HARQ-ACK (3) are not defined since there are no corresponding DAI values of 3 and 4 in the aggregation window as defined by 15 DAI. This is because the DAI value is defined as a cumulative number of PDCCH (s) within one or more assigned PDSCH transmissions and the PDCCH indicating downlink Semi-Persistent Planning (SPS) release up to the present subframe within An aggregation window Therefore, if there is no expected downlink subframe that is monitored by a UE for HARQ-ACK (j) related to a DAI value within an aggregation window, a UE behavior is not specified.

In some examples, systems, procedures, UEs and machine-readable media are disclosed that resolve the issue of generating an acknowledgment for the situation in which a final DAI value (LDAI) received is smaller than the size of an aggregation window . In some examples, a default state for HARQ-ACK (j) is used for the LDAI case <= j <M - 1, in which M is the size of the aggregation window or 5 multiplexing. For example, the DTX state can be filled in these HARQ-ACK responses. Thus, for example, in FIG. 4, the HARQ-ACK (j) for the CellP used to determine the appropriate response parameters would be: ACK, ACK, DTX, DTX.

Since the last two states for the CellP are filled in by DTX, the UE will know the exact correspondence of the table it should use. In addition, on the network side, since the eNodeB already knows that the last two states are added as filler with DTX, irrelevant states other than DTX can be excluded during the PUCCH detection hypothesis tests which can improve yields of detection of HARQ-ACK. For example, in Fig. 3, how the HARQ-ACK response in CellP is {ACK, ACK, DTX, 15 DTX}, {ACK, NACK, DTX, DTX}, {NACK, ACK, DTX, DTX}, or {NACK, NACK, DTX, DTX}, the states of {any, any, ACK / NACK, ACK / NACK} can be excluded in the detection of eNB. By reducing detection hypothesis tests, the detection performance of PUCCH can be improved.
twenty
The application of this procedure in the example shown in FIG. 4 produces:
Primary cell
Secondary cell Resource Constellation RM Code Input Bits
HARQ-ACK (0), HARQ-ACK (1), HARQ-ACK (2), HARQ-ACK (3)
HARQ-ACK (0), HARQ-ACK (1), HARQ-ACK (2), HARQ-ACK (3)
PUCCH RESOURCE b (0), b (1) or (0), or (1), or (2), or (3)
ACK, ACK, NACK / DTX, any
(ACK, NACK / DTX, any, any), except for (ACK, DTX, DTX, DTX) 1 0, 1 1, 0, 0, 0

While in some examples the HARQ-ACK (j) can be filled with DTX for the case in the
that all downlink subframes in an aggregation window were not planned, in other examples, other values, such as ACK, NACK or other defined value, may be used. This is because the eNodeB has sufficient system knowledge to ignore these values. In fact, in some examples, the UE can arbitrarily choose any ACK / NACK / DTX value. 5

Returning now to FIG. 5A, an acknowledgment procedure 5000 of a transmission is shown when not all downlink frames in a particular aggregation window have been planned. In operation 5010, the UE receives planning information in the PDCCH to indicate downlink frames 10 that are planned. In operation 5020, the UE determines that it has received the last downlink assignment for a particular aggregation window and in operation 5030 determines that the last DAI value (LDAI) is smaller than the size of the aggregation window. In operation 5040 the UE determines the ACK / NACK / DTX responses for frames for which the UE did not know they were planned. In operation 5050, the remaining HARQ-ACK (j) that do not have corresponding DAI values are filled with a predetermined value (for example, DTX).

Returning now to FIG. 5B, a procedure 5100 for processing an acknowledgment is shown in an eNodeB of a transmission in which not all downlink frames 20 in a particular aggregation window have been planned. In operation 5110 the base station (for example, an eNodeB) can plan one or more downlink transmissions for a particular acknowledgment period (for example, an aggregation window) and notify the UE through a downlink control channel such as a downlink physical control channel 25 (PDCCH). In operation 5120, the eNodeB can transmit the planned frames. In operation 5130 the eNodeB can receive the response from the UE. In step 5140, the eNodeB can determine that the value of the last DAI sent in the PDCCH is smaller than the size of an aggregation window. In step 5150, the eNodeB can use the resource (for example, the PUCCH resource) that the response was received along with the 30 constellation and the RM code bits received to determine the response, assuming that the HARQ-ACK (j ) in which j is LDAI <= j <M - 1, in which M is the size of the aggregation or multiplexing window, are added as fill values. The eNodeB can then transmit any necessary retransmission.

Returning now to FIG. 6 shows a 6000 system for acknowledgment of transmission transmissions. The User Equipment (UE) 6010 communicates with a Radio Access Network (RAN) 6020 which may include one or more base stations (for example, an eNodeB) 6030, 6035 on one or more radio links 6040. The RAN 6020 It may be connected to a central network 6045, such as an Enhanced Packet Core. The EPC 6045 can be connected to a 6050 network, such as the Internet, an Ordinary Telephone Service (POTS) network, or the like. In the system of FIG. 6, 6040 radio links can operate in a Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode.
10
FIG. 7 shows a partial functional diagram of a UE 7000 (more components not shown may be included). The UE 7000 may include a transmission module 7010. The transmission module 7010 may transmit control and user traffic to the RAN over one or more uplink channels such as an Uplink Physical Control Channel (PUCCH), a Shared Channel Physical uplink (PUSCH) or similar. The transmission module 7010 can transmit the user traffic acknowledgments and control traffic sent from the RAN to the UE 7000 on the downlink channels (for example, the Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) and the Channel of Dedicated Physical Control (PDCCH)).
twenty
The reception module 7020 can receive information sent by the RAN on the downlink channels such as the Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) and the Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) and inform the state response module 7030 of receiving that information. For example, the received subframes can be decoded in the receiving module (and any FEC connection can also be made here) and an indication can be sent as to whether the subframe should be subject to ACK, NACK or DTX acknowledgment for the response module 7030. The reception module 7020 can also pass several communication parameters to the response module 7030, for example, the size of the aggregation window and the last DAI received for that window. 30

The response module 7030 may inform the transmission module 7010 of the appropriate response parameters (for example, PUCCH resource, RM code bits, constellation) according to the tables in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 (continued in FIG. 2A) based
In the LDAI, the size of the aggregation window and the like. For example, the response module 7030 can make a determination that a number of received downlink assignments is smaller than the size of the response aggregation window and based on that determination, adjust the reception status of each assignment received from downlink based on whether a frame associated with the particular downlink assignment received was successfully received and adjust the reception status of a frame in the aggregation window that did not have a corresponding downlink assignment for a predetermined value. For example, the response module can determine for each index j for a plurality of downlink subframes in a response aggregation window if one or more values 10 received from the downlink assignment index (DAI) is equal to aj + p . The determination of a reception status (ACK / NACK / DTX) of the corresponding subframe aj responds to the determination that one of the one or more DAI values is equal to aj + p. The setting of the reception status of the corresponding subframe aj for a predetermined value responds to the determination that none of the one or more DAI values is equal to aj + p in which p is a constant (for example, 0 or 1), in which the one or more DAI values is received in the Physical Channel of Downlink Control (PDCCH), in which j ≤ M-1, and in which M is a number of subframes in a HARQ aggregation window. The response module 7030 may also be referred to as the HARQ module and can then order the transmission module 7010 to transmit the response 20 determined appropriately. In some examples, the variable p can be equal to zero if there is a transmission on a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) in the primary cell without a corresponding PDCCH detected in the aggregation window, and otherwise p can be one . Therefore, the p-value can represent whether a semi-persistent planning PDSCH (SPS) without the corresponding PDCCH exists within an aggregation window or not. Note that although the specification describes a PDCCH with a DAI value for a planned downlink frame, the description can also be used when the UE receives a PDCCH indicating a downlink Semi-Persistent Planning (SPS) release message that It also includes a DAI value. 30

FIG. 7 also shows a partial functional diagram of an eNodeB 7100 (more components not shown may be included). The eNodeB 7100 includes a transmission module 7110 that transmits user data and control data on one or more channels.
For example, user data or control data can be transmitted on a Dedicated Physical Control Channel (PDCCH) or a Dedicated Physical Shared Channel (PDSCH). The transmission module 7110 can schedule frames for transmission and signal the UE in the PDCCH. The transmission module 7110 can also transmit the DAI in the PDCCH. The reception module 7120 can receive control and user data on the uplink communication channels, such as the Uplink Physical Control Channel (PUCCH) and the Uplink Physical Shared Channel (PUSCH). The reception module 7120 can receive the HARQ responses from the UE for the downlink subframes (for example, the ACK-NACK-DTX responses). In response to this information, the reception module may indicate to the transmission module that it may be necessary to retransmit some data. The reception module 7120 can decode the response based on the determination of for which PUCCH resource the response was received, the constellation bits received and the RM codes received. The receive module 7120 may also determine that the value of the last DAI in the aggregation window was less than the number of subframes in the aggregation window and that one or more of the ACK / NACK / DTX of the subframes should be ignored at Not be representative of a real transmission.

Although the machine-readable medium 8022 is illustrated as an individual medium, the term "machine-readable medium" may include a single or multiple media (for example, a centralized or distributed database, and / or servers and memories 25 associated intermediates) that are configured to store the one or more 8024 instructions.

The term "machine readable medium" may include any tangible medium that is capable of storing, encoding or transporting instructions for execution by machine 8000 and that causes machine 8000 to perform any one or more of the techniques herein. description, or that is capable of storing, encoding or transporting data structures used by or associated with said instructions.
