Improvements in the construction of stops for railway vehicles, characterized in that they comprise two shock absorber units individually coupled to a stop head, each of said units incorporating a cylinder having a main drill and an auxiliary drill containing hydraulic fluid, a movable piston inside the main bore and coupled to a stop head, a movable auxiliary piston inside said auxiliary bore, spring means interposed between said main and auxiliary pistons and hydraulic pressure acting against said auxiliary piston to maintain a cooperating stop against impacts of a predetermined amount, the two units being in hydraulic communication with each other, the arrangement being such that, when a stop head is subjected to shock in excess of the predetermined amount, hydraulic pressure will be created within the bores of the cylinder of the associated unit, built the main piston and the main drill in such a way as to allow the hydraulic pressure to be relieved in such a way as to absorb an excessive shock, the latter causing the displacement of the auxiliary piston, whereby hydraulic fluid is transferred to the other shock absorber unit and a investment of operations.
