Abstract

Process for the manufacture of sulfonic acid hydrazide represented by the general formula ** (See formula) ** wherein R 1 represents a member of the group consisting of aliphatic, aromatic, araliphatic and heterocyclic hydrocarbon radicals, and halogenated substitution products thereof, and R 2 and R 3 each represent a member of the group consisting of hydrogen, aralkyl radicals, hydrocarbon radicals alicyclics having no more than 7 carbon atoms and saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals having no more than 2 to 7 carbon atoms, at least one of said radicals R2 and R3 being other than hydrogen, process comprising condensing a compound having the general formula R1-SO2-X (II) wherein X represents a member of the group consisting of halogen, acyloxy, sulfonyloxy or amino and R1 has the same meaning as above, with hydrazine, a hydrazine producing agent or with a substituted hydrazine having the general formula ** (See formula) ** in which R2 and R3 have the same meaning expressed above, introducing, if necessary, a substituent R2 other than hydrogen by reaction with the corresponding carbonyl compound and reduction of the hydrazone formed, and introducing, if necessary, a substituent R3 other than hydrogen by conversion of the hydrazide into a metal salt and treatment of the latter with an agent that supplies a radical R3.
