Abstract

Un método para producir una emulsión acuosa de polihidroxialcanoato (PHA) a partir de un polímero de PHA biodegradable basado en componentes biológicos, un copolímero o sus mezclas, que comprende las etapas de: fundir el polímero de PHA, el copolímero o sus mezclas; reducir la temperatura del polímero de PHA, el copolímero o sus mezclas, hasta 20°C a 50°C debajo de la Tm, según lo determinado por calorimetría de barrido diferencial (DSC), del componente polimérico de más alta fusión del polímero de PHA, el copolímero o sus mezclas; combinar el polímero de PHA, el copolímero o sus mezclas y una disolución estabilizante coloidal acuosa bajo mezclado distributivo utilizando una extrusora de dos tornillos contra-giratorios o co-giratorios, formando de este modo una emulsión agua en PHA; reducir la temperatura de 20°C a 50°C de la emulsión agua en PHA; y añadir agua y opcionalmente uno o más dispersantes poliméricos o tensioactivos produciendo una emulsión acuosa de PHA.
