Abstract

A fuel tank (1) of thermoplastic material is provided with ribs (2, 3), by means of which it can be fixed with the aid of screws (5) to the vehicle body (A) of a motor vehicle. The function of the ribs (2, 3) is to hold the fuel tank (1) in normal operating conditions of the motor vehicle. The fuel tank (1) is enclosed by a cradle-shaped construction (8), which comprises metal bands (9, 11), which by means of the same screws (5), which also serve for fixing the ribs (2, 3) is fixed to the vehicle body (A). The sole function of the said construction (8) is to prevent any collapse of the fuel tank (1) when this is exposed to fire or strong heat.
