Abstract

Method of increasing the volumetric density of hydrothermally prepared hydrated calcium silicates, characterized by making an initial contact of lime and silicon reagents, at a temperature of at least 212ºF (100ºC), by adding an aqueous suspension of lime, the reactants comprising water and said suspension of reactive siliceous material and lime being provided to form a CaO/SiO2 molar ratio of 0.1 to 2.0 and a reaction medium having a water-by-solids content of 8 at approximately 50 parts by weight of water per part of solids, and maintaining the aqueous suspensions of the siliceous and lime reagents at a temperature of at least 212ºF (100ºC) during a reaction period of at least 20 minutes, to effect a substantial reaction between the reactive components to form a hydrated calcium silicate.
