Abstract
A cut-weft fabric has a selvedge that is lenowoven with a standard thread 11, which is always shed to one face of the fabric, and a pair of crossing threads 13, 14 which are always shed to the other face and which are woven under such tension that they "uncross" and, for each pick, alternate threads 13, 14 pass around the selvedge to the other face of the fabric, tucking in the weft end 19a and causing the threads 13, 14 to assume a plain woven formation gripping the tucked-in weft end. Two pairs of threads 13, 14 may be used, either separated or together. Oppositely moving heald frames 38, 40 have rods 31, 32 on which slide carriers 48, 49 spring-biased to stay apart. The carrier 48 has standard thread guides 59 and the carrier 49 has the leno thread guides 67 which are pivoted on rods 68 and are moved by rods 72 attached to rockers 75. In the Fig. 4 (not shown) position the guide 59 is lowered between the eyes of the guide 67 and the main shed is open. As the shed closes the carrier 48 rises with the frame 38 and the carrier 49 lowers with the frame 40. When the shed is closed the carriers 48, 48 are then maximum distance apart and the guide 59 is above the guide 75. Continued ascent of the frame 38 then pivots the rocker 75, the leno threads cross, the carriers 49 rises with the frame 38, the carrier 48 descends with the frame 40 so that for the next shed the standard thread guide is again lowered between the reversed leno thread guide 75.
