Abstract

A fuel injector valve 10 has a conical seating surface 12 and two cylindrical guide surfaces 14, 28 at opposite ends of the valve. In the seated position the injection orifice is closed by the cylindrical surface 14 and by the conical seat 12. Fuel flow apertures 19 formed in the cylindrical portion 14, are opened after the valve has lifted a short distance.
