Abstract

An anti-theft steering lock device for motor vehicles has a cam rotor (26) controlled by a cylinder (12) lock for operating a latch (54) movable perpendicular to the axis (B) of the lock by an intermediate transmission member. The transmission member is formed by a shaft (56) which is rotatable about an axis (A) perpendicular to the axis of rotation (B) of the cam rotor (26) and to the direction of movement of the latch (54), and which is associated with first (38) and second safety devices for preventing the accidental closure of the latch (54) when the key is inserted in the lock.
