Process for the preparation of an aqueous dispersion of a macromolecular substance in water, comprising the steps of emulsifying in water a solution of the macromolecular substance in an organic solvent which is not an oxygenated compound, and which is not miscible, or which is only miscible in limited quantity, with water, add an organic oxygenated compound and remove said solvent by distillation, not containing the organic oxygenated compound less than two carbon atoms, and not causing acid reaction in the aqueous phase, ascending the applied amount of compound oxygenated organic from 1 to 70% by volume of the aqueous phase, and being completely miscible at the prevailing temperature with the applied amount of said solvent, at least part of the organic oxygenated compound being added after the emulsification, but before it has been completed the removal of said solvent.
