Abstract

A climbing aid, in particular for climbers, has an unlockable locking means (1) which has at least two locking cams (2,4) pivotable oppositely to each other about a pivot axis (3), and is connected by way of a connecting element in the form of a wire cable (6) to a rope securing eye (7), wherein the locking cams (2,4) which are loaded in the locking direction by spring force are connected to a pull element (8) which extends in the direction of the connecting element, is provided with a grip means (9), and pivots the locking cams (2,4) into the unlocked position against the spring force. In that arrangement the wire cable is preferably rigidly connected to one of the cams. The fact that the connecting element is in the form of a wire cable (6) provides that the climbing aid is made less sensitive to forces acting thereon, which are directed transversely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the connecting element, while nonetheless being easy to handle. The aid is intended to be inserted into a crack in the rock face.
