Process for the preparation of a foundry sand composition, characterized in that it comprises forming a casting composition by the joint mixing of sand, an aqueous acid solution, and an acid catalyst; polymerizable binder; said binder being present in sufficient quantity to bind said sand particles together when cured; the acid being present in said aqueous acid solution in sufficient quantity but with insufficient concentration to rapidly bring polymerization to said binder, forming said melting composition in the desired configuration and increasing the concentration of acid in said aqueous acid solution of the composition formed by separating the water therein, substantially uniformly at least until said acid is present in sufficient concentration to rapidly bring polymerization to said binder.
