Abstract

A method of continuously winding yarn on to successive bobbins comprises feeding yarn onto one bobbin through first traversing means, engaging the yarn and swinging the yarn through an arcuate path so that the yarn is lifted out of the first traversing means and placed in the path of a second traversing means, and feeding the yarn onto another bobbin through said second traversing means. In the embodiment shown when the left hand package has reached a predetermined size, or after a predetermined winding time, sleeve 32 moves to the left to release the right hand bell crank lever 28, 30 to allow the empty bobbin to fall onto its driving roller. Rack 36 is also moved to swing arm 44 upwardly to move the yarn out of the traversing guide 8 of the full bobbin to be caught by the castellations of the snare ring 20 mounted on spindle 18 of the empty bobbin and then to fall into the path of the traversing guide of the empty bobbin. Sleeve 32 now, engages the left hand bell crank lever 28, 30 to lift the full bobbin out of engagement with its driving roller. The yarn between the full and empty bobbins is broken by the difference in speeds between the two bobbins or by a severing device. A single driving roller may be provided for one or more pairs of bobbins. In an apparatus described but not forming part of the invention claimed, a series of traversing guides, one for each pair of a plurality of bobbins, are mounted on a cable oscillated by a cam-as in Specification 885,473. Part of the cable is accumulated in a reserve which is varied in size to shift each guide from one bobbin of a pair to the other bobbin.
