Improvements in crown caps with tear-off closure, for application to the closure of the mouth of a container, comprising in combination: a metal crown shell formed of a metal of relatively low thickness that can be torn easily, said metal shell comprising a part circular top, a substantially cylindrical jacket depending on said upper circular portion, and an integral annular closure flange extending radially outwardly of said cylindrical sleeve, said upper portion being formed with an arched incision forming a tongue, and portions weakened by notches located at the ends of said incision and extending therefrom, said notched parts have a substantially circular shape located on the outer area of the upper part of said crown shell, to immediately narrow into a part formed by notched lines that extend to and above the radius of the corner and down in the cylindrical sleeve, said annular closure flange being provided with radially extending corrugations to allow application of the closure to said container; a preformed metal disk adjusted under pressure inside said crown shell; and a molded plastic liner secured to the inner surface of said metallic inner disk and to a small portion of the inner surface of the wall of the shell of the crown to fix said metallic insert within said crown shell, said liner being adapted to contact forming a seal with the container when said crown closure is operatively applied to the container, said closure flange maintaining said liner in sealing contact with said container.
