Abstract

A plastic reservoir 2 for hydraulic fluid is attached to a brake or clutch master cylinder via a hollow metal fitting 18 which has a ribbed or knurled collar 14 adapted to be passed through a correspondingly ribbed bore 16 in boss 12 formed in the reservoir after which the inner end 26 of the collar, or tabs 32 formed on the latter, is or are turned down to secure the reservoir against a shoulder 22 of the fitting, a threaded portion 20 of the fitting beyond the shoulder being engageable in a threaded bore of the master cylinder. Either two seals 28, 34 are arranged as shown in Fig. 1, or a single seal (60, Fig. 4, not shown), may be arranged to be wedged in an annular recess formed by a modified boss (64) and fitting (58), so that leakage of fluid is prevented. Cap 8 of the reservoir is provided either with a bellowstype fluid/air seal 48 or with a plastic cup (50, Fig. 2, not shown), provided with openings (54), (56) to form a labyrinth, the cap in either case being of screw-on type and perforated at 42.
