Abstract

A device for finishing the head end of a cylindrical cigar bunch 11 by removing a portion of the filler therefrom and subsequently moulding the head end comprises a rotary, pointed, left-hand threaded screw 6 having a square cross-section, the thread of which has a pitch so directed that a portion of the tobacco filler in the head end of the bunch is distributed axially inwards and obliquely towards the periphery of the bunch when the screw is pressed into the head end of the bunch. The front flank of the thread forms an angle of at least 60 degrees to the longitudinal direction of the screw. The screw, driven by a motor 4, and the moulding device 7 are mounted on a reciprocating frame 1, the cigar bunches being caried on a conveyer 10 in the direction of the arrow. Heating elements 9 are provided in the moulding device 7.
