Abstract

A framed window unit such as a single glazed unit or double or multi-glazed unit comprises an inherently rigid frame 2 of plastics material e.g. polyesters, polyethylene, and P.V.C. incorporating glass fibres and may be colouring agents, which has been moulded in situ on to the panel or panels. As shown the panel comprises a double-glazed unit e.g. a sash having panes 4, 5 with separators 7 enclosing a space 6 and the frame 2 has profiling members 8, 9, 10 and 11 as required to promote good sealing of the sash in a main frame when, the sash is closed. The plastics material of the frame may extend between the peripheral margins of the panels 4, 5 (Fig. 4). The distance pieces 7 may be of metal soldered to the glass panes. Two or more panels may be placed in co-planar relationship and the frame moulded around them. Hinges and handles &c may be secured directly to the frame or moulded integrally therewith.
