Abstract

A sighting device which can be used to locate an object and indicate the position of this object to another person comprises a plate 10 having two upturned edges 11, 12 and two parallel lines of sight each defined by a V-notch 13 in the edge 12 and a W-notch in the edge 11, an object sighted through one pair of notches being indicated to another person using the other pair of notches. Circular openings 15 are provided in the plate 10 to enable the user to hold the device and square openings 16 serving as windows for effecting tracings on a sketch. Graduated scales 17, 18 are also provided intended for measurements on maps. In a modification one pair of the notches 13, 14 may be carried on a ruler adjustably mounted on the plate 10, so that the axes of the two lines of sight may be made to converge on an object so as to determine its range by measurement of the angle between the two lines of sight.
