Process for the preparation of pharmacologically active basic butyrophenones having the general formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein R1 is a linear or branched alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and R2 is hydrogen or fluorine, characterized in that it is subjected to reaction to an ester of the piperidino butyronitrile or a halide, the piperidino group of which is substituted in the 4- position by a linear or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, with a Grignard compound obtained by the reaction of magnesium with bromobenzene which can be substituted in the p-position by fluorine; and because the magnesium complex obtained is decomposed with the help of water and the isolated basic ketone.
