Abstract
A process for preparing an alloy, comprising forming a melt, casting it in the form of an ingot having from 14 to 30% chromium, from 0 to 50% iron, from 0.003 to 0.05% aluminum, from 0.005 to 0.15% titanium, from 0.01 to 0.3% silicon and from 0.01 to 0.15% carbon, the rest, apart from residual impurities and deoxidants, nickel in an amount of at least 30%, and in which if the carbon content exceeds 0.03%, (a) the grain size and hardness are correlated so that, for any given grain size, the hardness is not greater that the one represented in a graph that relates the hardness with the size of grain by a curve little pronounced drawn by the following points: (see graphic) and (b), if the alloys were heated to 700º C for one hour and cooled with air, the grain size and hardness would be correlated so that, for any given grain size, the hardness would not be greater than that represented by a slightly pronounced curve drawn in the same way by the points: (see graphic) work the ingot and anneal it.
