Abstract
Device for actuating and retaining leaves of a mechanically driven knife, comprising a knife handle housing, a pair of alternately moved blades having pins for insertion into the housing, a pair of blade actuators reciprocated each of the which has an opening through its side wall, a sheet retainer mounted, loosely adjacent to each actuator and having a portion that engages the shank of the blade that extends through the opening of the actuator, having the leaf retainer a non-fixed fulcrum on one of its edges and means at the opposite edge for application by the leaf release means, flexible means making contact with the applicator portion of the retainer shank, and means on each actuator maintaining the flexible means in support relationship with the application part to the retainer spigot, the retainers being movable together of the leaves when they come into contact with the ears of the leaves inserted between them, and pivotably movable about the fulcrums when the leaf release means are applied between them.
