Abstract

A process for the desulfurization of filler material containing aromatic hydrocarbons, essentially characterized in that it comprises contacting the filler in the presence of hydrogen, with a supported nickel catalyst at a temperature and pressure at which the catalyst has desulfurization activity, but lower than that in which it has substantial hydrogenation activity, and progressively increase the temperature and, if desired, increase the pressure, as the catalyst becomes sulfurized, the operating conditions being such that no substantial amount of Hydrogen sulfide is produced in the process.
