A process for suppressing the reversion of carbon monoxide in a reaction in which a gas containing carbon monoxide is in contact with catalytic metal surfaces at temperatures between 427º C and 816º C, characterized by providing as an additive for said gas an amount of sulfur , hydrogen sulfide or a sulfur compound susceptible to its decomposition by heat in a concentration of 1 to 100 parts of additive per million parts of gas.
