Process for the preparation of new azines of the general formula I, ** (See formula) ** in which R1 means hydrogen, an alkyl group with at most 6 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group with 3-6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkylene group with at most 8 carbon atoms, a cycloalkenyl group with 4-8 carbon atoms, carbon or the propargyl radical, and R2 means an alkenyl group with 3-6 carbon atoms, a cyclopropyl group, a cycloalkenyl group with 4-8 carbon atoms or the propargyl radical, and R3 and R4 mean hydrogen or lower alkyl radicals, characterized in that an azine of the general formula II, ** (See formula) ** in which R1, R3 and R4 have the significance indicated above, and R2 'means hydrogen or the meanings indicated for R2 in formula I, wherein, however, at least one of the symbols R1 and R2' must be hydrogen, it is reacted in the presence of an acid-binding agent or with an ester suitable for the reaction of a compound of the formula III R2-OH (III) in which R2 has the significance indicated above, and precisely with at least the double molar dose of this ester, if in the formula II, the symbols R1 and R2 'both mean hydrogen, or are reacted with at least the dose equimolar of an ester suitable for reaction of a compound of formula IV, R1' - OH (IV) in which R1 'has the significance of formula I, with the exception of hydrogen, whereby in a compound of formula II, R1 is hydrogen.
