Abstract
Tobacco stems are puffed by hot air at from 200 to 500 C., the air either flowing up a column such that the tobacco stems which puff become less dense and are forced upward into collecting means while the steams that do not puff remain in the column of hot air until they either puff or fall into collecting means at the bottom of the column, or the hot air is applied using a fluidized bed technique.
