Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein X is halogen, R 1 is an alkanoyl group and R 2 is an acyl group. They are prepared by heating a compound of formula in the presence of a catalyst to affect a Fries rearrangement. A number of suitable catalysts are specified, and an example is given. The acyl group may be derived from an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic acid, e.g. from butyric, cyclohexane carboxylic, benzoic, naphthoic, nicotinic or furoic acid.
