Abstract
Improvements made in the manufacture of sheet materials or decorative laminates resistant to weathering and non-gloss, adapted to be adhesively fixed at room temperature to a panel to be decorated, characterized in that the structure of said sheet or laminate material includes a base laminate structure, a normally sticky pressure sensitive coating, firmly adhered to one side thereof, and a separable and disposable protective liner temporarily adhered on said adhesive coating, said base laminate structure having a thickness between 100 and 375 microns and having, from said adhesive coating, the following permanently bonded layers: an opaque and flexible pigmented backing layer of plasticized polyvinyl chloride resin with a thickness of approximately 25 microns plus or minus 10 microns, a multicolored woodgrain pattern decorat ivo of differently pigmented inks printed on said bottom layer in a thickness no greater than about 5 microns; a protective, transparent and flexible body layer of plasticized polyvinyl chloride resin of substantial thickness, but not more than 300 microns, and at least 50 microns thick with a speckled pattern stamped on the surface thereof away from the decorative wood grain pattern, said speckled pattern consisting of a plurality of tiny depressions of the line type essentially parallel but staggered in said body layer having said depressions at least 25 microns in depth and not more than 12 mm in length, and not being wider than twice its depth and simulating the speckled pattern of the natural wood, said material being characterized in sheets or laminated because said base structure has a transparent outer film of acrylate resin n0 sticky and hard, adhered on said layer body and containing ultraviolet absorbing agents dispersed in said transparent film, having or said transparent film of approximately 10 to 25 microns in thickness, being resistant to discoloration, and constituting a protection of the underlying resin layers or below, against degradation by weathering, said transparent film being of essentially uniform thickness over all the surface of said body layer, whereby the exposed outer surface of said transparent film exhibits a replica of said mottled pattern.
