Abstract
A mixture containing m-amylphenyl-N-methylcarbamates (amyl=Et2CH- and PrMeCH-) is made by reacting excess phenol, in presence of an acid-activated Group II metal montmorillonite clay (0.6-1.5 parts by wt.), with 1 part of cracked wax C5-olefin cut containing up to 5 wt. per cent diolefins at 40-110 DEG C. for a time sufficient to alkylate the phenol, increasing the temperature to 140-200 DEG C. for 1-20 hours, and methylcarbamoylating the sec-C5-alkylphenols so formed.ALSO:A mixture containing m-(1-ethylpropyl)- and m - (1 - methylbutyl) - phenyl - N - methylcarbamates is used as the active ingredient of an insecticidal composition.
