Abstract

The growth of a package of yarn on a spindle, e.g. a ring spindle, is controlled by driving the winding spindle at a rotary speed equal to the product of the feed rate of the yarn and a programme signal representative of the rotary speed at a particular feed rate. As shown, a pulse source 3 is coupled to a draw roller and emits pulses having a repetition frequency proportional to the rotary speed of the draw roller. The pulses are fed to adjustable-ratio pulse dividers 4, 5. The pulse-divider 4 is adjusted by hand and its output is applied to a stepping motor 6, the shaft of which is coupled to a programming unit 7. The frequency division of pulse-divider 5 is adjusted in dependence on the output from the programming unit, which comprises a programme card having ridges co-operating with micro-switches, which is displaced by the stepping motor 6. The repetition rate of the programme-adjusted pulses from the pulsedivider 5 are compared in a comparator 9, forming part of an automatic speed controller 10, with the repetition rate of pulses from a pulse source 8 emitting pulses having a repetition frequency proportional to the rotary speed of a yarn-winding spindle 2, whereby the speed of the spindle is maintained in correspondence with the draw-rate. The pulses from pulse-divider 4 are also fed to adjustable pulse-dividers 11, 12 the ratios of which are set by the programming unit 7. The pulses from the pulse-dividers 11, 12 are applied to stepping motors 13, 14 rotating spindles 15, 16 positioning slides 17, 18 on which switches 19, 20 are mounted. The switches co-operate with a projection 22 on a rod 21, which is moved with a ring rail or spindle-carrying bar, to reverse the transverse motion and determine the build-up of a package on the spindle 2.
