Abstract

Apparatus for casting metal ingots comprises a runner plate 1 with a central hole 2 therethrough which is connected to a plurality of radial channels 6 to 9 in one side of the plate and which in turn are connected by respective through-holes 25, 26 &c. to a plurality of chill moulds 15-20 on the other side of the plate. A pouring gate 10 is provided on the chill mould side of the runner plate and which has a detachable upper portion 11. The moulds and pouring gate are secured to the runner plate by screws 22, 23 and lifting brackets 39, 40 with trunnions 41, 42 are provided so that the whole assembly can be inverted for the removal of the cast ingots. The various channels and through-holes may be provided with lining members formed from fireclay.
