Abstract
A process for the preparation of an opticallyactive [alpha]-aminolactam salt comprises introducing a solution of a mixture of D- and L-[alpha]-aminolactam together with optically-active pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (or a derivative thereof) and a liquid medium immiscible with the said solution into a rotary film evaporator having a constant width of gap between the spreader blades and the evaporator surface, evaporating the solution therein under conditions whereby an optically-active salt of [alpha]-aminolactam and the pyrrolidone carboxylic acid is precipitated, and discharging the residual liquid and the said precipitate from the said evaporator. An example describes the preparation of the salt of L - [alpha] - amino - # - caprolactam and L- pyrrolidone carboxylic acid.
