Abstract
In a method of electro-phoretically coating an article immersed in a coating bath, the electric current passed is in the form of a sequence of pulses, the amplitude and duration of which are such that only a single species of charge carrier is discharged at the surface of the article to be coated during each pulse. Preferably the interval between successive pulses is such that the charge carries discharged by one pulse are replaced by diffusion before the next pulse, e.g. the pulses may be of length equal to of less than 10-1 sec., with an interval between 10-2 and 1 sec. The pulses used may be rectangular or trapeze-shaped, or may be bilateral pulses such that the mean potential of the pulse is other than zero. The bath may comprise an acrylic resin together with aluminium silicate, titanium dioxide and various pigments.
