An air conditioning system for heating and cooling a plurality of peripheral zones and a central zone within a building, comprising a conductor for circulating a heat transfer fluid to said peripheral zones, a reverse cycle refrigeration units in said peripheral zones having a first heat exchanger element disposed in thermal transfer relation with the circulating fluid through said conduit, and a second heat exchanger element disposed in thermal transfer relation with the air of its corresponding zone, being supplied to said first and second heat exchanger elements a common refrigerant and being communicated with each other operatively, so that such elements can operate respectively as evaporator of the refrigerant and as condenser of the refrigerant or, respectively, as condenser of the refrigerant and evaporator of the refrigerant, being operable theseunits in a cycle to transfer heat from said heat transfer fluid to the air of its corresponding zone, and, in the other operating cycle to transfer heat from air to said heat transfer fluid, constituent means of heat source connected to said heat transfer fluid.
