Abstract

A granular laundry composition comprising a powdered enzyme composition attached to a water-soluble granular carrier, which carrier comprises 20 to 100% by weight of a partially hydrated hydratable salt having a pH in aqueous solution of from 4 to 12 and a vapour pressure not in excess of 13.15 mm. of mercury when measured at atmospheric pressure and at 20 C. and in which the enzyme composition comprises 2 to 80% by weight active enzyme in admixture with an inert vehicle and is attached to the hydratable salt by the hydration of the hydratable salt hydrated not in excess of 90% of its hydration capacity by weight, is prepared by a process which comprises contacting the granular carrier with powdered enzyme in the presance of sufficient water to partially hydrate the hydratable salt. Many examples of salts are listed and mixtures of such salts can be used. The salt can be used either per se as the granular carrier or can comprise a portion of a multicomponent granular carrier wherein the other components can comprise diluent salts, organic detergents, detergency builder salts not having the necessary hydrate characteristics and other detergent composition components of the usual type. Suitable enzymes include hydrases, oxidoreductases, desmolases, transferases, isomerases and preferably hydrolases, e.g. proteases, esterases, carbohydrases and nucleases, and mixtures of enzymes may also be used. Suitable organic detergent compounds include soap and anionic, nonionic, ampholytic and zwitterionic synthetic detergents and mixtures thereof. The usual detergent additives may also be included in the laundry composition.
