Abstract
A liquid biodegradable detergent composition comprises (A) up to 50% wt. of alkali metal soap of at least one fatty acid selected from unsaturated fatty acids having from 14 to 22 carbon atoms and mixtures of at least one such unsaturated fatty acid with at least one saturated fatty acid having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, (B) a solvent solution consisting of water and lower saturated monohydric alcohol having 1 to 4 C atoms, the ratio by weight of water to alcohol being from I : 1 to 8 : 1, and (C) up to 15% wt. of one or more organic fluidifying agents selected from glycerol, ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight from 200 to 600 and potassium para-toluene sulphonate. The composition may contain up to 36% wt. of one or more of the inorganic salts potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate, potassium tetrabasic pyrophosphate, sodium tetrabasic pyrophosphate, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, potassium sulphate, and sodium sulphate. The compositions may contain (a) an emulsifying agent, e.g. an ethanolamine (b) a sequestering and/or dispersing agent, e.g. an alkali metal sulphoricinate, phenol esters condensed with 7-12 moles of ethylene oxide, polyethylene glycol monooleates, sulphonated fatty alcohols, ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid or a salt thereof, and an alkali metal gluconate (c) optical bleach and perfume.
