Abstract

Feed holes 30a in a backing strip for labels 20 are covered by the labels. The holes may be cut so that the waste portions 30 stick to the label, or alternatively so that the waste remains with the backing strip. The labels 20 may be contiguous, as shown, or spaced, or from a continuous strip to be separated by die-cutting shortly before separation. The backing strip may be fed round a sharp edge 18, to separate the labels, by a pin wheel (26) (Fig. 1, not shown) and the labels may be printed or scanned by a device (16) immediately before separation. The holes 30a are die cut in the backing strip after the labels have been adhered.
