Abstract
An electro-deposition apparatus is provided with means whereby the plating current is controlled initially at one constant value and subsequently at a second constant value and the increase in current from the first value to the second value having a constant rate. The current supply to a pair of plating electrodes is controlled by varying the voltage output of a silicon controlled rectifier device 22, the control being effected by way of a differential amplifier 23 comprising saturable reactors, whereby the phase of the gate signals for the thyristors is altered in accordance with the error signal between the thyristor output voltage and the desired output voltage represented by an input signal E. The signal E is varied to produce the desired plating current pattern, a relay contact 14 first being set, manually or otherwise, in the position 15 16 when the initial constant value of the plating current is adjusted by variable resistor 13. After a given time period the contact 14 is moved to position 16, 18 when a D.C. amplifier 10 together with a capacitor 11 becomes an integrating amplifier whereupon the plating current is caused to increase linearly, at a rate set by variable resistor 20, until it reaches the second constant value adjusted by a potentiometer 21, the diode 17 forming a clamp to prevent any increase in the signal E when it reaches a value set by the potentiometer.
