Abstract

In a two-for-one yarn twisting machine the yarn 7 coming radially from the spindle 14 is wrapped at least partially around the spindle whorl 30 to control the tension. The spindle whorl top may comprise a series of vertical rods 29 of a material with a low coefficient of friction other tops (Figs. 9 to 12, not shown) are described. The twisting machine (Fig. 1) comprises a support 10, held stationary by magnetic means carrying a stationery stem 4 with a top tensioner 1 and a rotatable package support 13. The stationary stem 4 carries a flyer 5 and the spindle 14 carries a ring 22 with yarn guides 26. In use the package rests stationarily on the support 13 and the yarn is withdrawn through the top tensioner 1, through the stem 4 and support 10, radially out through the spindle 14, around the spindle wall and through a guide 26. As the weight of the package decreases it is said to rotate with the support 13 on the support 10.
