Abstract
The throat armour of a blast furnace comprises several sections each adjustable by an automatically balanced bridge network, and includes means for continuously comparing the positions of the sections to ensure that they operate synchronously. As shown Fig.1, a three section armour throat has each section linked to the slides 4 of a potentiometer 3, inter-connected in a first bridge network with relays 7 1 -7 3 in the unbalance diagonals, and in a second bridge network with control potentiometers, with relays 6 1 -6 3 in the unblance diagonals Thus, exciting the sliders 5 on potentiometers 1 to adjust the throat size, energizes relays 6 1 -6 3 to energize motors which adjust the throat size and drive the sliders 4 to the balance positions. Any potential difference between adjacent sliders 4 energize a relay 7 1 -7 3 to stop an adjusting motor until the throat sections are again in step.
