Abstract
A rotary cam switch, for use as an inhibitor switch in an automatic transmission for a vehicle, comprises contacts 14, 15, 16, 17 mounted in one plane in body member 18, a plurality of wipers, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Fig. 6 (not shown), spring loaded to engage the contacts, and a peripheral cam 24 engageable by the wipers to lift the wipers out of the plane of the contacts and thus out of engagement with the contacts when the wipers are in an intermediate position between the contacts. The wipers are arranged in two groups of three in contact arcs upon diametrically opposed sides of a circular base member 7. A spring 9 on mounting plate 8 bears against insulating member 10 bearing against the wiper assembly bearing on the cam surface 24. In a recess 23 on mounting plate 8 fits a sealing washer 22 and a driving bar 11 having keys 12 to fit in keyways in a central hole in member 7, a flange 21 to bear against plate 8 and a shaped recess for a driving shaft (not shown). The contacts are preferably of silver and the wipers of silver alloy.
