Abstract

Compositions comprise (i) a thermoplastic polymeric component containing at least 10 weight per cent of a vinyl chloride/alkyl acrylate copolymer wherein the alkyl group contains 2 to 8 carbon atoms and (ii) 0.5 to 5.0 weight per cent based on (i) of a C8 to C22 fatty alcohol. Preferred alcohols are C12 to C18 alcohols, particularly cetyl and stearyl alcohols and mixtures thereof. Preferred alkyl acrylates are ethyl and 2-ethylhexyl acrylates, and component (i) may also contain polyvinyl chloride or copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride. The compositions may also comprise epoxidized oils, stabilizers, lubricants, pigments and fillers, and may be used in the manufacture of gramophone records and pipes. Examples describe compositions comprising calcium stearate, organo tin salt, epoxidized soya bean oil and a mixture of C16-C18 alcohols together with (1) vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, (2) polyvinyl chloride (3, 7-20 and 28-33) vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer and vinyl chloride/2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer, and (21-27) polyvinyl chloride and vinyl chloride/2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer.
