Abstract

Storage apparatus comprises a skeleton frame 1, 4, 5 which houses a plurality of side-by-side storage units (1a), e.g. cupboards or shelf units each supported on a carriage 17 engaged on a guide rail 2 carried by the frame so that each unit (1a) may be withdrawn from the frame in the manner of a drawer, and includes an anti-tilt mechanism which prevents tipping of a withdrawn unit. The anti-tilt mechanism including a flexible line 11 releasably anchored at one end through an adjustable tensioning device 13 to a top, front frame member 4 and at its other end 10 to a beam 9 at the bottom of the withdrawal open- ing. The line 11 is guided through the rear of the frame, as at 12, and around pulleys 26, 25 carried on the rear of the unit (1a). The unit (1a) has front, back, bottom and top walls 8, 28, 29, 30 and open sides giving access to the unit. The carriage 17 comprises rollers 18, 19 supported by and between side plates 20, 21 to which are secured channel members 22, 23 respectively engaged by a rail 16 on the bottom of the unit and the guide rail 2., which engage between laterally spaced lugs or rollers 24. Each unit (1a) carries a stop 31 which engages the beam 9 in the withdrawn position. A unit may be completely withdrawn by disconnecting the line 11, tilting the unit and lifting it over the beam 9. To prevent two adjacent units being fully withdrawn simultaneously their rear parts are interconnected by a line (32, Figs 3 and 4) passing over a pulley (33) fixed to the frame, the line (32) having a length substantially equal to the length of a unit.
